The Department of English was established with the inception of Government Lahiri P.G. College, Chirimiri Koriya, Chhattisgarh in 1953. Ever since, through pragmatic activism the Department has carved out a niche for itself. The Department seeks to offer refreshing new perspectives to young minds and aims to facilitate the accomplishment of their creative talents especially in the fields of Literature and Language. The Department offers Undergraduate programs in English Literature and Language. English language is taught as a compulsory paper in all Under Graduate courses. The Department has been conducting different innovative and academic programs like lectures, and webinars with a view to foster literary aesthetics and creativity among students. Scoping the needs and interests of students English Language Lab is established in English Department. The Department of English has been endeavoring to provide the students a firm grounding in English studies in a very congenial atmosphere. The department uses ICT in Teaching –Learning process. Student- centric teaching with Mentoring and counselling is done by teachers.

Library : About 50 books on English
Language and Literature are available for students in the College Library.
English Language Lab:
An English Language Lab equipped with 32 computer systems is available for students to improve their Language skills. The Language Lab has been established at the College Library. The library reading room has an overhead projector for the English Language Lab. The Smart English Language Lab is equipped with e-Master English cloud software version 1.0 which is operational over offline LAN network. The English Language Lab is available for all the students of all the three faculties of college, Arts, Science and Commerce. Students of under graduate as wel as post graduate could utilise the English Language Lab facility in order to enhance their efficiency of English Language.
